A section of Putnam Avenue in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood has been officially co-named 'ODB Jones Way' to honor the late Wu-Tang Clan member Ol’ Dirty Bastard (Russell Tyrone Jones).

The renaming ceremony, held on July 25, featured his family, friends, local community members, and officials such as New York City Council Member Chi Ossé.The new sign was unveiled at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Putnam Avenue, a block where ODB’s grandmother still resides.

This area is also home to a prominent mural depicting the cover art of ODB’s 1995 debut solo album, 'Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version'.

ODB, who co-founded Wu-Tang Clan in the early 1990s and contributed to their seminal 1993 album 'Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)', passed away from a drug overdose in 2004 at age 36.

The street renaming follows New York City Council’s designation of November 15 as Ol’ Dirty Bastard Day in 2023, recognizing his influence on hip-hop.Wu-Tang Clan recently completed their farewell 'The Final Chamber' tour, which included a tribute to ODB and other late members.

RZA, the group’s founder, emphasized the importance of preserving their legacy, stating that their absence would hinder future generations of artists.The clan is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this November alongside other notable acts.
