Poll Finds Most Americans Believe U.S. Global Reputation Has Declined Under Trump Ahead of World Cup
Acting U.S.Attorney General Todd Blanche declined multiple opportunities to comment on an ongoing federal lawsuit challenging a planned UFC event at the White House.During a press conference focused on unaccompanied migrant children, a reporter asked Blanche about the legal dispute surrounding the proposed event.
Blanche interrupted the question and stated that he would not discuss the matter, repeating his refusal when pressed about a possible court order that could block the event. The Department of Justice, which Blanche leads in an acting capacity, has filed legal arguments defending the project. The controversy centers on a lawsuit filed on June 7 by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of two Virginia residents.
The plaintiffs argue that the Trump administration failed to obtain the required congressional approval for the installation of a large temporary arena, known as the 'Claw,' on the White House South Lawn.
They also claim the administration bypassed environmental review requirements and improperly relied on a National Park Service rule intended for legitimate semiquincentennial celebrations rather than a commercial UFC event reportedly planned around Donald Trump's 80th birthday. The case is scheduled for oral arguments before U.S.District Judge Amit Mehta.According to the lawsuit, the arena would be a 92-foot-tall, 600-ton structure. The plaintiffs contend that the project violates multiple federal laws governing construction and use of public property.
The Department of Justice argues that more than $60 million has already been spent on preparations and that the lawsuit was filed too late, asserting that halting the event now would unfairly disrupt plans.Legal experts cited in the article said the complaint presents a detailed legal argument regarding the alleged violations.A court decision could significantly affect whether the event proceeds as scheduled.
