AEGIS: A self-hosted AI orchestration platform for personal workflow automation
Gidi Littwin, co-inventor of Apple’s FaceID and Vision Pro technologies, has founded Hemispheric, an AI startup aiming to revolutionize brain health diagnostics.
The company raised $52 million after analyzing data from 100,000 individuals to train deep-learning models that interpret electrical brain activity without invasive procedures.Littwin left Apple in 2020 to pursue this venture, partnering with Hagai Lalazar, who had previously developed AI for non-surgical brain analysis. The team collected over 250,000 hours of brain data from volunteers across Asia, Tel Aviv, and Boston, using gamified activities to gather insights.
Their model, inspired by large language models, infers brain function from electrical signals and has shown accuracy in diagnosing PTSD, schizophrenia, and depression.Hemispheric plans to submit its first product for FDA approval in 2027, targeting PTSD treatment.
The technology involves a lightweight EEG headset and AI-driven analysis to assist clinicians in diagnosis, treatment selection, and progress monitoring.Littwin envisions a future where brain health assessments are as routine as blood tests, with affordable devices distributed globally. The startup also aims to develop proprietary brain scanners for better data collection, contrasting with traditional EEGs.Partnerships with governments and healthcare organizations will drive regulatory approvals and expansion.
