The Akwa Ibom State Government says its introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) has significantly improved the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), pushing it from N7.5 billion in the first month to N10.2 billion in the second month and N12 billion in the third month.

Governor Umo Eno disclosed this during a media briefing marking the third anniversary of his administration, noting that the TSA policy has helped to block leakages in revenue collection and ensure full remittance from ministries, departments and agencies into a unified state account.

According to the governor, the state previously struggled to generate as low as N5 million monthly before the reform, but the TSA has now strengthened financial accountability and improved revenue performance. He also stated that any agency or individual found violating the remittance order would face sanctions.

Beyond revenue growth, Eno highlighted that the government has spent over N740 billion on road infrastructure within three years, covering more than 1,348 kilometres across the state.

However, he expressed concern over the performance of some local contractors, stating that project delays have become a major challenge despite payments being made.He warned that a road project in Uyo awarded in 2024 may be terminated if not completed by July.

The governor also announced plans to address pothole-ridden roads in the state capital through a special committee, and revealed ongoing preparations for the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure.Additionally, the government is exploring partnerships to convert waste into wealth while improving sanitation in urban areas.Eno, elected under the PDP in 2023, has since moved to the APC and secured the party’s ticket for the next election.
