Former Minister of Transportation and a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has stated clearly that nobody has approached him to become a vice presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Amaechi dismissed speculations linking him to a possible running mate position following the ADC presidential primary.
He insisted that if anyone had made such an offer, his reaction would have been straightforward, stressing that no such conversation has ever taken place.Amaechi also revisited the controversial ADC presidential primary, where he contested and came second.Atiku Abubakar was declared winner of the primary with over 1.8 million votes, while Amaechi polled about 509,397 votes, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen secured 180,903 votes.Following the outcome, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the results, with Amaechi alleging that the figures were manipulated or “concocted.” Despite his strong criticism of the process, he maintained that he remains a committed member of the party.
The political tension around the primary has been followed by renewed conversations within the party, especially after reports emerged of a meeting between Atiku and Amaechi at Atiku’s Abuja residence.
Atiku later described their discussion on 𝕏 as focused on national issues such as economic hardship, insecurity, and the need for patriotic leaders to find solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
However, Amaechi’s recent comments suggest that no formal political arrangement, including any vice-presidential consideration, has been discussed between both men.The situation continues to highlight internal disagreements within the ADC following its presidential primary.
