American national Robert Lee Redd junior, 56, wanted for alleged sexual assaults on two minors in Texas in 2017 and 2019, has been arrested in Westbrook, Gqeberha.His arrest followed a two-year international search coordinated with Interpol and assistance from the US embassy in Cape Town.

Redd appeared briefly in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Friday, but the matter was postponed to Wednesday, June 3, to allow the state and his legal team to consult further.The prosecution has indicated that it will oppose any bail application.

During court proceedings, Redd’s legal representatives requested he be held at Humewood police station rather than St Albans Correctional Centre, citing easier access for consultations.However, the court ruled he will remain at St Albans, where consultations with his lawyers will still be permitted.He remains in custody without bail as preparations continue for his extradition to the United States to face charges of rape and sexual assault.This case highlights ongoing international cooperation in tracking fugitives and ensuring that suspects face justice across borders.
