Analysts Say Senate Hearing Format May Limit Scrutiny of Todd Blanche's Attorney General Nomination

Political commentators Bill Kristol and journalist Ben Parker argued that the Senate Judiciary Committee's planned format for Todd Blanche's confirmation hearing could significantly reduce meaningful scrutiny of his nomination to become U.S.attorney general.

Speaking during an interview on Morning Shots, they contended that the hearing's structure, which gives each senator only 10 minutes to question the nominee, may allow Blanche to avoid detailed examination of his record by providing lengthy, generalized responses that consume the allotted time.

Parker said this approach would result in one of the shortest periods of questioning for a modern attorney general nominee, making it difficult for senators to explore major issues such as the Department of Justice's anti-weaponization fund, the handling of the Epstein files, and other controversial matters.

He argued that limiting questioning reflects an effort by Republican lawmakers to minimize political exposure rather than publicly defend Blanche's record, calling the strategy 'shameful and cowardly.

' Kristol added that Blanche has already served as deputy attorney general and acting attorney general for roughly a year and a half, giving him an extensive record that deserves thorough examination.

He said senators should have enough time to ask about policy decisions, previous statements, and court cases in which judges criticized Blanche's actions.

According to Kristol, even if senators effectively interrupt lengthy answers, the overall time allocated remains insufficient for a comprehensive review of Blanche's performance and qualifications before the committee decides whether to advance his nomination.

Oh, please. Like Republicans care about 'scrutiny.' They’re just rushing this guy through so they can do whatever they want. Total sham, honestly.
