Anambra Police Commissioner Reiterates Need for Professional Conduct Among Officers

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has called on police officers in the state to maintain high standards of professionalism while carrying out their duties.

He made this appeal during a security conference held by the state police command in Awka, where senior officers, including area commanders and divisional police officers, were in attendance.

According to him, the directive aligns with the instructions of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, aimed at improving discipline and public trust within the Nigeria Police Force.Orutugu emphasised that professionalism remains essential for building and sustaining confidence between the police and the public.

He warned officers against any form of misconduct, including corruption, extortion, abuse of office, or behaviour that could damage the image of the force.

He stressed that officers must be courteous, respectful, and professional when interacting with members of the public, noting that the reputation of the police depends heavily on their conduct in the field.

The commissioner also acknowledged the ongoing security challenges in the state but commended officers for their operational efforts and successes in tackling insecurity.

He stated that despite difficulties, the command has continued to perform above expectations and remain committed to ensuring safety in Anambra State. He further described the police uniform as a symbol of honour, sacrifice, and public trust, urging officers to uphold these values at all times.

He encouraged them to remain courageous and dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities while continuing to work in line with the expectations of the police leadership, the state government, and the general public.
