Authorities are investigating a hate crime after a beloved mural at the site of the destroyed Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center was vandalized with swastikas and antisemitic graffiti.

The incident occurred on the 1400 block of North Altadena Drive, where the mural—featuring a large bright orange poppy symbolizing hope and resilience—was created following the devastating 2025 Eaton fire that destroyed over 9,000 structures and killed 19 people.

The synagogue, which had been operating off-site since the fire, called the mural a 'symbol of solidarity' and expressed deep sorrow over its defacement.While the number of suspects remains unclear, the Altadena Sheriff’s Station emphasized their commitment to holding perpetrators accountable.The temple is collaborating with investigators to restore the artwork, though it is uncertain if the original artist, Miriam Hellmann, will return.The incident highlights ongoing tensions related to antisemitism and hate crimes in the community, with officials urging unity against intolerance.
