Babu Owino, Embakasi East Member of Parliament, has launched the inaugural Nairobi County Pool Championship, a constituency-based billiards tournament with a total prize fund of KSh 5,000,000.The competition starts with qualifiers in Embakasi East on 11 July 2026, followed by other constituencies.Winners at each constituency level pocket KSh 15,000 and advance to the Nairobi County Finals, where the bulk of the prize money is awarded.Men's champions get KSh 150,000, runners-up KSh 100,000, and third places KSh 75,000.Ladies' winners receive KSh 60,000, with lower amounts for runners-up and third places.A team event offers KSh 140,000.Over 5,000 people have registered, with Embakasi East registration closed and others open.The tournament aims to support youth talent and boost Nairobi's sports scene.Public reaction has been positive, with many praising the initiative.Meanwhile, Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi broke the 1000m world record, earning potential prize money and government rewards.
