Bayelsa State Launches First Commercial Flight Operations Through Pioneer Airlines Partnership

Bayelsa State don officially enter commercial aviation sector as Pioneer Airlines carry out its first non-scheduled maiden flight using an ATR 72-600 aircraft newly acquired by the state government.

According to statement from the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Douye Diri, Daniel Alabrah, the development shows the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and boosting economic growth through strategic investments.

The governor express satisfaction with the airline’s operational capacity and professionalism, describing the move as a major milestone for the state’s development and a step towards improving connectivity and internally generated revenue.The historic flight take off from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 11:10 a.m.after taxiing and clearance from air traffic control, and arrive Bayelsa International Airport at about 12:15 p.m., completing a smooth one hour five minutes journey.The aircraft was piloted by Captain M.Ibrahim alongside First Officer Joyce, who serve as co-pilot.

Governor Diri himself was on board as the symbolic first passenger occupying seat 1A, joined by notable personalities including former House of Representatives member Hon.Gabriel Onyenwife, political adviser High Chief Collins Cocodia, and other aides.

The launch is seen as a strategic partnership between Bayelsa State and Pioneer Airlines aimed at strengthening air transport connectivity, promoting tourism and business activities, and expanding the state’s revenue base.

Stakeholders say the development could position Bayelsa as a growing hub for regional aviation and support broader economic diversification efforts within the Niger Delta region.
