The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states of Assam and Bihar have announced they will release protesters detained during recent agitations against alleged irregularities in public exams and withdraw cases filed against demonstrators.

The decision follows pressure from the Cockroach Janta Party, which threatened renewed protests if states reversed their promise of no legal action against peaceful protesters.

The agitation began in Delhi on June 6 when the Cockroach Janta Party protested at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over exam irregularities.

Pradhan resigned on Saturday, and states like Bihar and Assam declared no legal action against protesters who participated before a specific deadline.

The Cockroach Janta Party accused the Union government of breaching its agreement to protect protesters, insisting cases must be withdrawn and detainees released.Police reported detentions in multiple states, with some minors released after signing bonds.The protests highlight tensions between political parties and civil society, with concerns about state responses to dissent.
