Former NRL player Blake Austin has revisited comments he made earlier in the season after the Wests Tigers' form dramatically declined following their victory over the Canberra Raiders at Leichhardt Oval in April.

At the time, the Tigers defeated the Raiders 33-14 and climbed to third on the NRL ladder, but the match was overshadowed by poor behaviour from sections of the home crowd.

Raiders hooker Tom Starling publicly revealed he had received abusive and misogynistic messages directed at him and his partner, while Canberra supporters also reported being subjected to hostile treatment throughout the evening.

Austin said he witnessed repeated anti-Raiders chants and multiple mock renditions of the Viking clap, arguing on his podcast that such behaviour would not be looked upon favourably by the so-called 'Footy Gods'.

Three months later, Austin noted the Tigers have suffered a significant downturn, winning only two of their next 11 matches and falling to 14th on the ladder.

The club has also endured off-field setbacks, including Jarome Luai's decision to leave for Parramatta before later joining the PNG Chiefs, with the Tigers contributing financially to his early departure.Reports also emerged that Adam Doueihi walked out of training and would miss the upcoming clash against Canberra.

Raiders players Matt Timoko and Ethan Strange acknowledged that Leichhardt Oval is known for its passionate and often intimidating atmosphere, but said they expected that environment and accepted it as part of playing there.

Canberra now enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak as it continues its push towards the NRL finals, while the Tigers are attempting to halt their slide.
