Nigeria Faces Football Crisis Amid World Cup Qualification Failures
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially launched the bidding process for the 2028, 2032, and 2036 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments, inviting all 54 member associations to compete for hosting rights.This move marks the start of a decade-long race to host three editions of Africa’s flagship football competition.
CAF emphasized that the selection process aims to identify hosts capable of delivering world-class tournaments meeting technical, commercial, and operational standards.The framework, developed with support from PwC and other advisers, ensures transparency and fairness.
The announcement coincides with preparations for the 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, marking the first time the tournament will span three East African nations.CAF highlighted the tournament’s global appeal, with over 3.2 billion TV viewers and six billion digital views annually.The 2027 edition will be a key test for CAF’s efforts to strengthen AFCON’s international reach and commercial value.
