Calabarzon successfully reclaimed the secondary boys’ basketball crown in the 2026 Palarong Pambansa after defeating defending champions Davao Region, 79-62, in a comeback victory held in Agusan del Sur.
The Calabarzon Heroes overcame a slow start, even trailing by as much as 15 points early in the game, before gradually turning the tide with key scoring runs and strong teamwork in the second half.Dairick Duterte led the charge for Calabarzon with 21 points, delivering crucial baskets against hometown standout Rene Clert Baterbonia of Davao.
He was supported by Ali Mamauag, who added 18 points, and Rainheart Panaligan, who contributed 17 points, both of whom stepped up during critical stretches of the game.
Davao initially dominated with an aggressive 12-0 start and later mounted a strong fourth-quarter comeback, cutting the deficit to just three points at one stage after a three-pointer from Macky Peligrino, who finished with a game-high 30 points.However, Calabarzon responded with timely triples and a decisive 11-0 finishing run that sealed the win.Despite Davao’s efforts, they were unable to contain Calabarzon’s late-game execution, especially in transition and perimeter shooting.The victory marks Calabarzon’s first Palaro basketball title since 2016, highlighting a significant return to prominence in the tournament.Meanwhile, National Capital Region secured the bronze medal after defeating Central Luzon earlier in the day, 81-74.
The final showcased high-level youth basketball talent and intense regional rivalry, with Calabarzon ultimately proving more composed in the closing minutes to secure the championship.
