The City of Calgary has rescinded a noise bylaw ticket issued to a Stampede music tent after reviewing complaints about sound levels.Noise complaints have increased this year compared to 2025, with 186 reports as of July 11, 2026, compared to 124 in the same period last year.
The majority of complaints (124) were related to the Cowboys Music Festival, with additional issues from Badlands Music Festival (37), Whiskey Rose (6), and National Saloon (1).City officials noted that while noise levels have decreased slightly, bass levels remain a challenge.
Community member Michael Dettner-Owens reported a significant improvement this year, attributing it to better sound direction and community tolerance.The city plans to monitor noise levels closely, with a comprehensive report on complaints to be released after the Stampede concludes.Mayor Jeromy Farkas acknowledged anecdotal improvements in noise management but emphasized the inherent liveliness of the event.Noise exemption rules limit sound to 75 dba before midnight, with outdoor music allowed post-concert.The city will balance enforcement with collaboration with event organizers to ensure compliance.
