A federal government report obtained by Global News reveals that Canadian authorities have thwarted four extremist plots targeting Jewish communities since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in 2023.

The Integrated Threat Assessment Centre (ITAC) report, dated June 29, links these plots to the Islamic State and notes a fifth incident involving a Canadian citizen traveling to Israel.

While no plots have been uncovered in 2026, the report highlights a surge in antisemitic incidents, including harassment, criminal acts, and threats, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area.

The report warns that violent extremist and criminal threats against Jewish communities are likely to persist in Canada and the West for the next six months.It also notes that groups linked to Iran may continue directing threats against Jewish communities and U.S./Israeli interests.

The report emphasizes that while the national terrorism threat level remains at medium, the rising number of hate crimes and antisemitic incidents has created an environment that could fuel further radicalization.Statistics Canada data shows Jews accounted for 71% of religiously-motivated hate crimes in 2025, up from 69% in 2024.

Experts warn that the combination of rising antisemitism, disrupted extremist plots, and Iran-linked activities poses a significant threat to Canadian security.
