Planning Minister Chris Steel has unveiled a draft vision for the southern gateway corridor between Parliament House and Woden Valley, aiming to increase mid-rise housing to better connect Canberra's growing population with public transport.The plan prioritizes sustainable communities, with developments focused on Adelaide Avenue, Yarra Glen Drive, and other key areas.

The proposal limits high-rise apartments to Woden town centre and higher-density homes to North Curtin, while protecting green spaces like Deakin ovals.

The framework envisions urban villages in Deakin, West Deakin, Curtin, and Mawson, with improvements to light rail infrastructure and active travel networks.It also outlines steps to revive the original Griffin Plan's vision for tree-lined boulevards and multimodal transport spines.Public consultation will run until September 15, with the goal of creating safer, greener, and more connected communities aligned with climate goals.
