Bafana Bafana to travel to the US for FIFA World Cup after visa issues cleared
South Africa’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 after a 16-year absence has inspired a nationwide campaign celebrating the country’s most dedicated Bafana Bafana supporters.
Castle Lager, one of the national team’s sponsors, has launched a competition inviting fans to prove why they deserve to be recognised as South Africa’s ultimate Bafana Bafana superfan. The initiative follows a LinkedIn post by national team coach Hugo Broos encouraging supporters to share their passion and loyalty to the team.To enter, supporters must upload a 30-second video to social media explaining why they should be chosen, while tagging @CastleLagerSA.Entries close at midnight on 1 June 2026, after which six finalists will be selected.
The eventual winner will participate in several activities during the FIFA World Cup campaign period, including fan viewing events, watch parties and promotional appearances aimed at rallying national support behind Bafana Bafana.
The campaign, titled “The Fans That Stood the Test of Time”, recognises supporters who remained loyal throughout the national side’s years of disappointment, rebuilding and missed qualification opportunities.
Castle Lager marketing representative Thomas Lawrence said the initiative was designed to honour those fans who continued believing in the team during its long absence from football’s biggest tournament.
The campaign also includes the release of a commemorative film documenting South Africa’s football journey from 1992 through to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.The film highlights moments of unity, hope and heartbreak experienced by generations of supporters.Organisers believe the campaign can help unite South Africans through sport as excitement builds around Bafana Bafana’s return to the world stage.
