Lacson proposes court approval for detained senators to attend impeachment trial in person
Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano recently stated that some senators in the current majority have the option to present evidence of threats allegedly made by the administration to persuade them to switch to the minority bloc.

He emphasized that the independence of the Senate is essential in a democracy to maintain proper checks and balances between the legislative and executive branches.Cayetano also highlighted that the present majority is the first fully independent one since 2022, denying claims of disorder in the Senate.President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos, Jr., meanwhile, clarified that the executive does not select the Senate President, asserting that senators decide on their leadership. The article also notes ongoing legal cases against some senators, including plunder and graft charges, which they deny.
Cayetano criticized disruptions from minority senators and some elements in the national government, claiming these actions aim to undermine the Senate's independence.
Additionally, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee's hearings on the flood control controversy are scheduled to resume on June 4, 2026, just before the 20th Congress adjourns.Senator Imee Marcos voiced concern that these interventions appear intended to weaken the Senate and prevent thorough investigations.
