The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law during the ongoing impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a statement delivered during the conclusion of the 132nd plenary assembly, CBCP Episcopal Commission on Interreligious Dialogue Chairman Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo emphasized that the Church's position remains neutral regarding the vice president but prioritizes adherence to legal processes.He stated, 'We are not taking a stand in favor of or against our vice president.What we uphold is the Constitution, the rule of law.

' The bishops highlighted the importance of allowing the impeachment process to proceed without political interference, stressing that justice and accountability must guide the proceedings.

Bagaforo also called for national unity among Filipinos divided by political differences, urging them to focus on collective progress rather than personal or patronage-driven politics.The Church's role as a moral conscience for society was reiterated, with prayers for reconciliation and good governance.This stance reflects broader concerns about maintaining institutional integrity amid political challenges.
