DOJ Issues Subpoenas to Identify Anonymous Social Media Users Criticizing ICE
David Rush, a senior CIA official, was arrested after authorities discovered over $40 million in gold bars and approximately $2 million in cash at his Virginia residence.
Court documents reveal that the only formal charges against Rush relate to falsifying his academic credentials and unlawfully receiving tens of thousands of dollars in military leave pay.The CIA, after detecting potential legal violations, referred the matter to the FBI, which executed a search on May 18.
During the investigation, it was revealed that from November to March, Rush had requested significant amounts of foreign currency and gold bars for work-related purposes. However, the CIA was unable to account for these assets until the FBI located them in his home.In addition to the gold, agents seized nearly three dozen luxury watches, including many Rolexes.
The reasons for storing such a large sum of gold and cash at home remain unclear, and court papers provide no explanation of the supposed work projects requiring these assets. The case raises concerns about internal oversight and vetting procedures for senior officials within intelligence agencies.
