JD Vance Denies Feud With Pope Leo XIV During New York Times Interview
CNN interrupted its live coverage of a White House briefing by Vice President JD Vance on Thursday in order to switch to special programming covering the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
Vance had been speaking with reporters about a newly signed memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran and was answering questions regarding congressional briefings and sanctions waivers connected to the agreement.
While he was responding to a reporter's question, CNN anchor Pamela Brown informed viewers that the network would move away from the briefing and begin its live coverage of the Obama Presidential Center ceremony.Brown noted that viewers who wished to continue watching Vance's remarks could do so through CNN All Access using a QR code displayed on screen.
Following the transition, anchors Wolf Blitzer and Sara Sidner took over the broadcast from Chicago, where thousands of attendees had gathered for the opening event.
The ceremony focused on the unveiling of the Obama Presidential Center, a major cultural and historical project associated with former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Blitzer described the occasion as a historic moment, while Sidner reported a highly energized atmosphere at Jackson Park, a location closely connected to Obama's early political career.
The article highlights the timing of CNN's programming decision, emphasizing that Vance's briefing was interrupted before he completed his response.
It presents the network's choice as a shift in editorial focus from a policy-related briefing to coverage of a high-profile public event involving the Obamas.

Cutting off Vance mid-sentence for *that*? It's a power move, plain and simple. Shows exactly what they prioritize. Guess policy’s boring compared to legacy-building photo ops. Wild.
