MILF leader calls on BARMM local officials to ensure free and fair voting in historic parliamentary elections
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has canceled the certificate of candidacy (COC) of Anwar Salipada Alamada, a candidate under the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), for the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections.
This decision follows a petition filed by Rafsanjani Pendatun Ali, a candidate of the Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP), who argued that Alamada made false material representations in his COC.The Comelec Second Division granted the petition, citing insufficient residency proof in Barangay Kudal, Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur.
Alamada's legal team, led by lawyer Badrodin Mangindra, plans to challenge the decision through a Motion for Reconsideration and potentially appeal to the Supreme Court. The case highlights ongoing legal battles over electoral eligibility, with Alamada's supporters urged to remain vigilant against misinformation.Despite the cancellation, Alamada remains on the ballot as the top candidate in his district, pending final resolution of the appeal. The incident underscores the complexities of electoral law and the importance of legal recourse in contested candidacy cases.
