The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has received two certificates of candidacies (COCs) for the special elections in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, which are scheduled for August 29, 2026.

The filing period for COCs ran from July 15 to 17, 2026, following the expulsion of former lawmaker Kiko Barzaga by the House of Representatives in June 2026.The special polls aim to fill the vacant congressional seat left by Barzaga's removal.

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia emphasized that the election will proceed regardless of Barzaga's potential candidacy, as it is mandated by the Constitution.

The poll body also noted that Barzaga's expulsion does not permanently disqualify him from holding public office, unlike a conviction with finality.Comelec requested P191 million from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.to cover election materials, teacher honoraria, and other expenses for the 437,000 registered voters in the district.The process includes accepting COCs in person or through authorized representatives, with specific requirements for documentation.
