The Sherwood Residents Association (SRA) in Durban has raised concerns over the development of a Palestine House SA Centre for Human Rights in Browns Grove.The SRA criticized the lack of transparency, citing no detailed plans or traffic management strategies provided to them.They emphasized that their initial concerns from January 2026 were not addressed and that communication was restricted.The SRA noted that building plans have not been submitted to authorities, and the property has not been rezoned for its intended use.Palestine House SA spokesperson Shabnam Palesa Mohamed clarified that plans are in progress and the rezoning application is being processed.She assured that the center will only operate once approvals are granted, with interim events like film screenings and youth training.

The SRA highlighted their right to object to council and expressed disappointment at the lack of engagement, while Palestine House SA emphasized their commitment to human rights initiatives despite community tensions.
