Senator Markwayne Mullin, President Donald Trump's nominee for Homeland Security secretary, has come under scrutiny following reports about his use of a government-funded $70 million Gulfstream jet.
According to The Independent, Mullin frequently flies home to Oklahoma on Thursdays and does not return to work until Monday afternoon, effectively working only three days a week in Washington, D.C.
The jet includes luxurious amenities such as a queen bed, a bar, and showers and was purchased using funds allocated for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Legal expert Shant Karnikian criticized Mullin's behavior on the 'Civil Action' podcast, highlighting that such travel expenses are approximately 50 times higher than commercial flights.
Mullin, who replaced former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, has faced additional scrutiny for advocating a return to ICE training methods that were previously curtailed due to violent clashes between federal agents and protesters. His combative approach with lawmakers has raised further questions about his leadership.
The report has fueled concerns that Mullin’s actions may undermine the goal of reforming the Department of Homeland Security and raises questions about the prudent use of taxpayer resources.
