A section of the new Gombe State House of Assembly complex collapsed on Friday, killing one construction worker and injuring seven others.The incident occurred at the project site when a part of the entrance canopy under construction gave way, trapping workers beneath rubble.

Emergency responders quickly evacuated the victims to medical facilities, with three taken to Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, and five to Gombe State Specialist Hospital.Some injuries were severe.The Gombe State Government ordered an investigation into the collapse, confirming the casualty figures.Authorities stated the affected area was a cantilevered entrance canopy still under construction.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya directed immediate safety checks and accountability procedures, requiring the contractor and consultant to submit incident reports within 24 hours.The probe aims to determine causes and ensure compliance with safety standards.Yahaya also pledged to cover full medical costs for injured workers and emphasized strict enforcement of safety protocols in future projects.
