Four years after 21 teenagers died at Enyobeni Tavern in KuGompo City, a court has ruled that the owners were grossly negligent for failing to comply with liquor laws.Despite the ruling, owner Siyakhangela Ndevu continues to deny wrongdoing, blaming the victims' parents for providing money for alcohol.

The tragedy occurred on June 26, 2022, during a celebratory 'pens down' party for exam results, turning into a chaotic scene of overcrowding and crush asphyxiation.Forensic experts confirmed the cause of death was extreme overcrowding and poor ventilation.

The court also found responsibility in the tavern's manager, bouncer, and a liquor board inspector, while rejecting initial theories of poisoned alcohol.This ruling highlights systemic failures in enforcing liquor regulations and the tragic consequences of negligence in public spaces.
