Dar es Salaam Port has set a new record by handling 33.7 million tonnes of cargo in the 2025/26 financial year, a 6 million tonne increase from the previous year's 27.7 million tonnes.

This growth, attributed to improved operational efficiency and increased private sector involvement, marks a significant milestone for Tanzania's maritime infrastructure.Director Abed G.Abed highlighted that the port's performance exceeded 2030 projections, showcasing the success of recent reforms.The port's capacity has expanded dramatically, with annual cargo growth jumping from 1-1.5 million tonnes before reforms to 4 million tonnes in 2024/25 and 6 million tonnes in 2025/26.The port serves as a critical gateway for Tanzania and neighboring landlocked countries, enhancing regional trade and economic integration.Private sector partnerships have brought modern infrastructure and technologies, improving efficiency and reducing transportation costs.This growth positions Tanzania competitively in East African ports while emphasizing the need for sustained investment to maintain progress.
