Incumbent Dasmariñas Mayor Jennifer Barzaga filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for the special election of the lone congressional seat in the city on July 17, 2026.The filing was done at 2:38 p.m., within the allowed period of July 15-17, 2026, as announced by Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia.

This special election is scheduled for August 29, 2026, following the expulsion of Kiko Barzaga, Jennifer's son, from the House of Representatives in June 2026 due to his disruptive behavior.

Jennifer is the fifth candidate for the congressional seat, joining former Vice Mayor Raul Rex Del Rosario, Marvin Opamin Dupal-ag, Leysander Aguilar Ordenes, and Jacinto Bautista Frani Jr.The Comelec emphasized that the expulsion of Kiko does not permanently disqualify him from running, unlike a final conviction.

The election will require approximately P191 million to cover materials and honoraria for electoral board members, with over 437,000 registered voters in the district.Garcia noted that the poll body needs sufficient funds to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
