Tanzania's Minister of Defense and National Service, General Mkunda, presented the ministry's budget proposal in parliament.The session highlighted allocations for military operations, personnel salaries, equipment, training, and infrastructure, as well as funding for the National Service, locally known as Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa.

This program has historically supported youth engagement, nation-building, and skills development, combining military training with civic education and technical skills like agriculture and construction.

The budget comes amid evolving regional security challenges, including terrorism and cross-border crimes, with Tanzania actively contributing to UN and AU peacekeeping missions.General Mkunda's presence allowed lawmakers to review past expenditures and understand future spending priorities.

The parliamentary debate will ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment of defense spending with broader national development goals, balancing security needs with investments in health, education, and infrastructure.

The National Service component also supports youth employment and instills civic values, playing a critical role in workforce and community development.
