The Department of Education (DepEd) has partnered with all local government units (LGUs) to tackle the nationwide classroom shortage, estimated at 144,000 units.Undersecretary Filemon Ray Javier emphasized that the initiative is part of long-term structural solutions to address the backlog.

Secretary Sonny Angara prioritized resolving the classroom shortage since taking office two years ago, stressing the need for permanent and well-planned solutions.

The Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) warned that aging school buildings, with 51,000 classrooms likely to be condemned by 2028, could worsen the crisis.DepEd has mobilized P49.8 billion from a P67.9-billion allocation to deliver 14,601 new classrooms this year, after conducting legal and technical validations of over 47,972 school site records.The collaboration with LGUs is expected to expand as the project progresses, ensuring ownership and buildable space confirmations to prevent delays.This effort aims to provide sustainable solutions for the education sector's critical needs.
