Anitha R Radhakrishnan, a DMK MLA and former Tamil Nadu minister, was arrested for making allegedly derogatory remarks about Chief Minister M K Stalin.The arrest occurred hours after the Madras High Court denied her anticipatory bail.

The complaint was filed by S Selvam, an office-bearer of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to intentional insult and public mischief.

DMK president MK Stalin criticized the arrest, questioning the urgency of the action and highlighting past cases where similar complaints were not addressed promptly.The court emphasized that MLAs must respect the chief minister, noting that Tamil Nadu has a history of electing cinema personalities.

Radhakrishnan's counsel argued her speech did not fall under the charged sections, but the court dismissed her petition, stating her remarks were inappropriate for an MLA.The incident underscores tensions within Tamil Nadu politics and the legal implications of public speech by elected officials.
