The Department of National Defense (DND) has strongly condemned the recent aggressive actions of the China Coast Guard (CCG) against Philippine Navy personnel stationed at BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal.The incident, which occurred on July 20, 2026, involved CCG vessels approaching the Philippine Navy ship while taking photos and videos.

The confrontation escalated when CCG personnel allegedly struck a Navy serviceman with a wooden baton, causing injuries and damaging one of the Navy's rubber boats.

The DND described the attack as part of a pattern of 'provocative and hostile' behavior by the CCG, emphasizing its contribution to China's 'deficit of trust and credibility.
