The Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) confirmed that construction of the Dodoma mineral testing laboratory in Kizota, Dodoma, is progressing on schedule, with completion expected in September 2027.The facility, costing TZS 14.3 billion (approx.USD 5.4 million), will become the largest of its kind in East and Central Africa, offering internationally accredited testing services.This project aims to reduce delays in sample analysis for artisanal and small-scale miners, who have long faced challenges accessing timely testing.

The laboratory is part of Tanzania's Mining Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to expand geological surveys and attract investment in mineral processing.The government has also allocated TZS 20 billion for additional labs in Mbeya and Geita to decentralize testing services.The facility's completion marks a significant step in enhancing Tanzania's mineral testing capacity and reducing reliance on overseas labs.
