Dr Basil Enicker, Head of the Discipline of Neurosurgery at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, has been appointed President of the College of Neurosurgeons of South Africa for a three-year term from 2026 to 2029.

The College, responsible for maintaining neurosurgical training standards, examinations, and patient care across South Africa, will benefit from Enicker's leadership.

Enicker, also Scientific Chair of the Society of Neurosurgeons of South Africa, emphasized his commitment to strengthening specialist training, promoting academic excellence, and ensuring equitable access to world-class neurosurgical care.His priorities include expanding training opportunities while maintaining rigorous standards, addressing healthcare needs, and advancing research.The appointment was announced by CMSA CEO Professor Eric Buch, who highlighted support for Enicker's initiatives.

Enicker's background includes over a decade of involvement with CMSA, research into paediatric hydrocephalus, and clinical expertise in pituitary surgery, neuro-trauma, and paediatric neurosurgery.UKZN's Dr Normah Zondo praised his leadership and clinical excellence, expressing pride in his national recognition.This appointment underscores South Africa's focus on elevating neurosurgical standards and innovation.
