Dr Ranj Singh, the well-known TV doctor, has opened up about the personal challenges he faced after coming out as gay at the age of 30, an event that coincided with the breakdown of his seven-year marriage to pharmacist Sulvinder Samra.
Born and raised in a traditional Sikh household, Singh described feeling unfulfilled despite having achieved his career goals and building a prosperous life.Through therapy, he came to realise he was not living as his authentic self.Following his divorce in 2011, he experienced both personal upheaval and the challenge of revealing his sexuality to family and friends.Encouragingly, Singh found love and support from his brothers and, eventually, his parents, who expressed unconditional acceptance.
After navigating these difficult years, Singh discovered a sense of belonging within the LGBTQ community and is now in a relationship with actor James Colebrook.
Singh describes this phase as liberating, allowing him to embrace his identity, connect with a supportive 'chosen family', and pursue his passions fully.His story highlights both the difficulties and the rewards of living authentically.
