The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended assistance to the family of Fabio Norberte Jr., a motorcycle taxi rider who was stabbed and killed by his passenger in Caloocan City.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao confirmed that the agency immediately provided initial aid to the family, as Norberte was identified as a solo parent with a child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The assistance includes P10,000 cash aid, funeral support through a guarantee letter, and documentation for medical aid under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.Police reports indicate Norberte was attacked with an ice pick by his passenger.

Meanwhile, motorcycle taxi riders have expressed concerns over safety risks and proposed measures like passenger ID verification and SOS buttons in ride-hailing apps.The Motorcycle Taxi Community Alliance urged passengers to prioritize driver safety.This incident highlights ongoing challenges faced by motorcycle taxi drivers and the need for systemic support.
