Durban is set to enter negotiations for a host city agreement with Cricket South Africa to stage the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in October 2027.The eThekwini Municipality will submit a non-committal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise the agreement, which includes responsibilities such as city beautification, public safety coordination, and supporting fan engagement activities.The city has been allocated R600,000 to manage preparatory and implementation tasks.The Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium will host matches, positioning Durban as a premier international sporting destination.
The event is expected to boost economic activity through increased tourism, hospitality, and retail spending, while also enhancing the city's global profile.The municipality will implement a city dressing programme, maintain strategic public areas, and ensure safe, accessible environments for visitors.Eight South African venues, including Durban, have been confirmed for the 2027 tournament, which will also be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia.The selection of venues was based on factors like proximity to airports and hotel availability.
