E20 Janta Party demands consumer choice over ethanol-blended fuel

The E20 Janta Party, inspired by the CJP's success in ousting Dharmendra Pradhan as education minister, is demanding that consumers be given the option to choose between 100% petrol and ethanol-blended fuel.

The party, which gained over 25,000 followers on X within hours, is calling for the resignation of road transport minister Nitin Gadkari over the ethanol policy.

Transporters and associations like Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters are supporting the campaign, citing issues like reduced fuel efficiency, higher maintenance costs, and engine performance problems in older vehicles.

The group emphasizes the need for transparent fuel labeling, data on fuel blends' impacts, and independent studies on emissions and engine performance.Despite ethanol-free petrol being available, it's sold at select stations and is significantly more expensive than E20 fuel. The government has stated E20 is now the standard fuel with no plans to reduce ethanol blending.
