Tanzania Government Warns Against Unlawful Protests
Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP) member states have agreed to speed up the implementation of a regional electricity market aimed at expanding cross-border electricity trade and strengthening energy security.
Tanzania emphasized that the initiative will support industrial growth, attract investment, and improve electricity supply reliability across the region.
The resolution was adopted during the 22nd EAPP Council of Ministers meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where energy ministers, utility executives, and regional representatives discussed measures to deepen cooperation through interconnected grids, increased trade, and efficient resource use.
The common electricity market framework aims to enable efficient electricity trading, enhance power supply reliability, support economic growth, attract investment, and contribute to social development.Deputy Energy Minister Salome Makamba highlighted that reliable energy access will drive industrialization and reduce regional disparities.Ethiopian Minister of Energy reiterated the importance of regional collaboration for sustainable development.The agreement aligns with global efforts to integrate energy markets and address climate challenges through renewable energy adoption.
