The Editors Guild of India has condemned the attacks on media personnel during youth protests, emphasizing that biased reporting cannot justify such violence.

The guild issued a statement after videos surfaced showing journalists from TV channels being assaulted and heckled while covering protests demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The protests, which began in June 2026, have seen widespread participation, with thousands joining in Delhi after police intervened with activist Sonam Wangchuk.

The media outlets, including Times Now, Zee News, and others, reported incidents where reporters were physically attacked, with some losing personal belongings.

The guild highlighted that the anger of protesters was directed at media outlets perceived as aligned with the BJP, urging for unbiased reporting to maintain the media's role as a key pillar of democracy.

They also criticized the police's use of force, including tear gas and electric prods, against protesters, arguing that such actions violate freedom of expression.
