Jiel Simon Uguak, 32, an Edmonton man arrested during the FIFA World Cup in Vancouver's Granville Street pedestrian zone, has had his bail hearing adjourned until next week.Uguak is accused of two counts of assault following alleged incidents on June 24 and July 6.On July 6, police responded to a report from a woman who claimed Uguak swung his fist in her direction.Officers observed him attempting to punch another woman before he fled and was arrested after a brief chase.

Uguak has a history of violence and confrontational behavior in the Granville area, with previous charges from October 2024 that were stayed by the Crown in September 2025.He also faces robbery, unlawful confinement, and disguising his face to commit an indictable offense in Alberta.His trial is scheduled for May 2027 in Wetaskiwin.

Uguak was previously involved in a 2016 robbery and assault in Regina, where he and four others were arrested after demanding merchandise from a Rogers store and assaulting an employee.Court records indicate Uguak will seek bail on the assault charges on July 20 in Downtown Community Court.
