Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were deployed to the polling unit of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, during the 2026 governorship election in the state.
According to reports from the polling centre located at Polling Unit 003, Ward 06, Ikogosi, in Ekiti West Local Government Area, about 10 EFCC operatives arrived around 9:05 a.m.after voting had already started at approximately 8:30 a.m.Their presence came amid growing concerns and allegations of vote-buying in some parts of the state during the election. The EFCC officials were seen monitoring activities within and around the polling unit and engaging with security personnel stationed there. However, they did not publicly state the specific reason for their deployment. As at the time of the report, there were no arrests, disruptions, or incidents linked to their presence at the polling centre.Earlier reports indicated that voting was progressing peacefully at the governor’s polling unit. The polling unit reportedly has 668 registered voters.
Observers also noted that only an agent of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was visibly present at the location despite the participation of several political parties in the election.
The development reflects increased monitoring efforts by security agencies, election observers, and anti-corruption bodies following repeated warnings from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and civil society organisations against electoral offences such as voter inducement and vote-buying.
The Ekiti governorship election is taking place across all 16 local government areas of the state, with Governor Oyebanji seeking another term in office while facing candidates from various opposition parties.
