The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports claiming that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is being investigated over alleged visa fraud.

In a statement released on Monday, the anti-graft agency described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that the Immigration CG has no connection whatsoever with the ongoing investigations.

According to the EFCC, there are existing cases involving some immigration officers who are facing allegations of visa fraud before the Federal High Court.

The commission explained that investigations into the activities of some officers are still in progress and that more personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service could be charged in court if further evidence is established.However, it made it clear that these investigations do not involve Kemi Nandap in any way.

The EFCC also urged media organisations and journalists to verify information directly with the commission before publishing reports that could misrepresent its activities or create wrong impressions among members of the public.

The clarification was issued to address media reports and insinuations suggesting that the Immigration CG was being investigated for alleged visa racketeering.

By distancing Nandap from the ongoing cases, the EFCC reaffirmed that its current focus remains on the officers already facing legal proceedings and any others who may be linked to the alleged fraudulent visa practices through its continuing investigations.
