Ekiti Church Attack Victims Released After Two Months in Captivity

The victims of a church attack in Ekiti State, Nigeria, were released after being held captive for approximately two months.The abduction occurred on April 28, 2026, when gunmen attacked worshippers during a crusade organized by the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC).

The rescued individuals, from the Eda-Oniyo community in Ilejemeje Local Government Area, were taken to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for medical treatment.

The successful rescue was attributed to sustained intelligence operations and coordinated efforts by the Nigeria Police Force, the Military, security agencies, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and the Ekiti State Government.

The police spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, highlighted the dedication of all security stakeholders and the support from the state government under Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

A community representative, Rufus Ajayi, expressed gratitude for the victims' release but criticized the state government for not intervening in ransom payments, warning that support could have made the state a target for kidnappers.The local government chairman, Pius Alaba, acknowledged the state government's role in security summits to prevent future incidents.The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of security in the region and the collaborative efforts required to resolve such crises.
