US Appreciates Pakistan's Role in Facilitating Peace Talks with Iran
European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, arrived in Pakistan on Monday to participate in the 8th EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue.
She will co-chair the dialogue with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, which is the highest-level platform for structured discussions between the two sides.
During her visit, Kallas is scheduled to meet top Pakistani leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.The dialogue aims to discuss and strengthen bilateral relations under the Strategic Engagement Plan signed in 2019.
Kallas will also meet representatives from think tanks and academia, reflecting EU’s interest in wider engagement with policymakers and civil society.Trade and economic cooperation remain key topics, with the EU being Pakistan’s second-largest trading partner under the GSP+ scheme.
Since 2014, Pakistan’s exports to the EU have grown significantly, and key sectors benefiting include garments, bedlinen, towels, hosiery, leather, sports, and surgical goods.The visit highlights both sides’ commitment to maintain close cooperation on trade, development, climate, migration, and regional stability.
