The European Union (EU) has reiterated its call for all parties involved in the South China Sea dispute to fully implement the 2016 arbitral ruling, marking the decision's 10th anniversary.

The EU emphasized that the ruling, issued by an independent tribunal under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), remains 'final and legally binding' on the Philippines and China.The bloc urged adherence to international law and peaceful dispute resolution, stressing the importance of maintaining free and open maritime routes.

The EU also called for continued negotiations between ASEAN and China to establish a 'substantive and legally binding' Code of Conduct in the South China Sea.Concerns were raised over rising tensions and unilateral actions that could destabilize the region.The 2016 ruling invalidated China's 'nine-dash line' claims, asserting they lack legal basis under UNCLOS.

Despite repeated calls, China has rejected the decision, prompting the EU to reaffirm its commitment to upholding international order and regional stability.
