El-Rufai bail ruling delayed after judge falls ill in Kaduna court
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), is set to represent Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi in a criminal case filed by the Federal Government over allegations involving conspiracy, forgery, impersonation, and use of falsified presidential documents. The case is currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi is accused of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of a so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, which the government insists does not exist.
According to reports, the Federal Government has filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi and two other suspects, identified only as Femi and Anu, who are currently at large.
The charges allege that they conspired to forge official State House documents, including a purported appointment letter allegedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The accused persons are also said to have forged official letterheads and other presidential documents used to request office space, seek collaboration with agencies, and obtain approvals for the non-existent council.
Authorities further allege that between 2024 and 2025, Adeyemi misrepresented himself as a federal government appointee while operating the fictional agency. The Presidency has strongly denied his claims, stating that no such appointment was ever made and that the alleged institution does not exist.
Investigators from multiple government bodies, including security and financial intelligence agencies, reportedly concluded that Adeyemi’s claims were fabricated.Police sources said Adeyemi was arrested in October 2025 at an office where he allegedly functioned as head of the supposed council.Additional searches reportedly uncovered documents and materials linked to the alleged forgery.Investigators also claim he operated multiple bank accounts and even opened one in the name of the non-existent agency. The police maintain that a prima facie case has been established, and the matter will proceed in court for trial, where Falana will lead the defence.
